おはよう。
もうすぐクリスマスやお正月がやってきます。みんなはどんな風にすごす予定かな？？
私は彼氏がいないからクリスマスは女友達とパーティーの予定です。年明けは着物を着て初詣にいきますよー。母が着物をたくさん持っていてここ３年、お正月に着物を着るのがマイブームです。
今年は何色着ようかな～ワクワクです。
今年ももう終わりますね。2007年はどんな年になりましたか？？私は総合的に見て85点くらいくらいかな。来年はもっとよい年になるといいな。
もう最後のブログなんだね～寂しいな。けどみんなが日本語を勉強している様子が見えてうれしかった～もし機会があれば日本に遊びにきてね☆案内するよ～

Food

I like Japanese food such as sushi,tempura,dashimakitamago.
Have you ever ate sushi? I know it is rare to eat row fish for Americans.
But sushi's fish is so fresh and good taste.
Also, I like American food.
When I was in America, I ate Subway's sandwich almost everyday!!
Because it was so yummy and I could choose what I want eat with blead and it was always fresh and healthy. I worried about my health because American food is so oily.
My host mother was good at coooking and her dinner was delicious,but used too much oil!
My weight increased 8 kg!!! After that, I went on diet....
Anyway,what Japanese food do you like the best?

I live in Aichi prefecter, so now I'd like to introduce to you about special food of Aichi. Have you ever been to Nagoya? Nagoya is the seat of prfectural government of Aichi.

Fashion

Hi, I'd like to write about "fashion".
Japanese are dressed up so much,especially the students.
I guess you guys are surprised to how different from Japanese and American.
Japanese always makes up and dressed their clothes beautifully,because they want to show it.
But,americans are not so dressed up. They are always casual.
When I was in America, I notices it and I thought that we have to follow America student,because we should be like"student". Students don't need to dressed up so much,just think about studying something.
But I can't stop buying clothes...I like fashion,I buy some magazines per a month.
So, I'm working at clothes shop as part time job and I enjoy it.
Now, Japanese trends are so cute. Colored tights,poncho,short boots and so on!

♥Walking in a winter wonderland~♥

Well, It is almost the end of the semester, and with Christmas right around the corner, I find it hard to focus on studying for my finals. And to make thing even more difficult, because of the snow, I can't ride my bike so I have to ride the bus now and I am too short to reach the bar! So if I do not get a seat... It is a hopeless situation!

I need to go to the dollar store this weekend to get gifts for my SECRET SANTA.
Secret Santa is when a few people draw names secretly and buy them a gift for Christmas. I drew a girl named Autumn, who lives 2 doors down, but I have never met her before! I am not sure what to buy. Do you have something like this in Japan?

I am worried about Finals. They are coming next week and I need to write a 10 page paper, memorize 2 speeches, and study Japanese. Eh... When Christmas comes, I will be SO happy.

Thanksgiving... now Christmas...

Hello everyone!

Thanksgiving was a lot of fun this year. As always, our family had an 11 lb turkey. 0__0!!
The only reason we bought that one was because if we did, then we would get $9 off the price.
At first, we bought a turkey that was only 8 lbs, so we needed to return it and get the right size. My sister and I are old enough now to help with preparations, so it was nice to be helpful again this year. My favorite food was my dad's apple pie. It's so delicious! Who else likes pie?

Anyway, does anyone know about Black Friday? It's the day after Thanksgiving, which is one of the busiest and biggest shopping days of the year for Christmas. I can't go because my parents don't like to go with a lot of traffic on the roads. Has anyone gone shopping that day? What's it like?

Finals

After next week, it's time for finals. At MSU, we have a week for finals. Everyone takes different finals on different days. We have two hours for each test. Sometimes, the teachers change things so that we don't have to come to class the day of the final. In that case, we take the final on the last day of class. For a lot of people, finals are very stressful. This year, I have five finals, one for each class. I was spoiled last year, I think, when I only had one final for spring semester (Japanese 101).

During finals, to ease stress, I like to draw. A lot. I really like to draw an anime style, because I think it's fun. It's very relaxing. This is a picture I drew for a friend. This one was for an art class.

What are finals like in Japan? What do you do to relax?

みんな、元気ですか。今年先週の木曜日はThanksgivingでした。Thanksgivingはたくさん料理を食べる日です。たいてい家族は本当に忙しいですがThanksgivingに家族を会ったり、生活について話したり、丸々について｢ありがとう｣と言います。でも、一番大切物は自家製の食事です。七面鳥を食べるはずですが私は七面鳥が本当に好きじゃないです。そして七面鳥の代わりにポーランドのソーセージを食べます。

今日は日本の流行のファッションについて書きます。
日本人はおしゃれに敏感で、アメリカに比べたくさんのファッション雑誌が出回っているし、買い物する環境も整っています。私がアメリカに行って驚いたのは、ファッション雑誌の中身はほとんど宣伝ばかりで、服も高いものしか載っていませんでした。アメリカで日本でしていたようなおしゃれをしようと思うとお金がかかるということに気がつきました。
しかし、日本ではかわいい服がとても安く買えたり、種類も豊富です。
日本人の女の子たちは自分自身をかわいく見せることにこだわるけど、アメリカの女の子たちはいかに実用的であるかで服を選んでいると思いました。
日本で今流行っているものはポンチョ、ブーティー、カラータイツなどです。
日本にはさまざまな系統のファッションがあって、ときには理解ができないファッションもあります。

初めてのデート☆

今日ははじめてのデートについて話します。
私の初めてのデートはあまり覚えていませんが、たしか小学校５年生のときです。
好きな人と一緒にまだ付き合う前に公園で話していました。
何を話したかまったく覚えていませんが、ブランコにのっていたことだけ覚えています。
いまの彼氏とのはじめてのデートは２年前に名古屋駅のイルミネーションを見て、
その後に居酒屋にご飯を食べに行きました。彼はすごく面白くて、楽しかったことを覚えています。
しかしその当時彼はあまりおしゃれではなかったのでタイプではありませんでした。
あのときは若かったので彼氏にするならおしゃれでかっこいい人が良いと思っていました。
でも彼は私を楽しませようといつも一生懸命で、その一生懸命さに惹かれて付き合いました。
あれから２年と少しがたつけど、今では彼のことはすごく好きで、来年の２月に私はオーストラリアに行くのですが、寂しくて離れたくありません。でも前にアメリカに半年留学したときも、彼は待っていてくれたので、今回も二人で乗り越えたいです。
みんなの始めてのデートはいつ？そして何して遊んだの？？日本とアメリカは違うと思うので知りたいです。

First date!!

今日は初めてのデートについて学びました。

私の初めてのデートは中学生の時でした。当時の彼氏と映画館に行ったことを覚えています。うちの近くには映画館がなかったので地元で待ち合わせてバスを乗り継いでいきました。そういえばそのころは　まだ携帯電話を持っていなかったから大変だったな～けどそれはそれで楽しかったです。恥ずかしがり屋だったのであまりかれの顔を直視できませんでした。今思うとかわいいね。

今は彼氏がいないのであまりデートをする機会がありません。けど最近はやっぱり初めてデートにいくときはお食事に行くことが多いですね。お食事に行くと相手のいろいろなところが見えると思います。お店の選択でセンスやマナーがしっかりした人かとか。お話もたくさんできるし彼を知ることができると思います。

みんなは初めてのデートでは何をする？？

I sometimes go to "Izakaya" to drink alcohol and have dinner with my friends.
But when I was in America,there were no place like"Izakaya",so I went to my friend's apartment to drink and to have fun!
Izakatya is kind of bar but there are also delicious food and it's very common to go Izakaya to have dinner with fellow worker or friends in Japan.
We also drink alcohol at "Karaoke"or our house.
But "Izakaya" is the best place to drink and we can spend enjoynable time!!
How about America?
Is there any drinking customs?
One of my friend,he is American, was always having a party and drinking drinking....

More Halloween

In America, for Halloween, kids go Trick or Treating. I don't know if you know what this is, so I will talk a little bit about it. On Halloween, October 31st, children dress up in costumes. Then they go throughout the neighborhood and knock on people's doors. They say "Trick or Treat". The people in the house usually have candy and give the child a peice of candy. The kid usually carries around a bucket or pillowcase (you bring a pillowcase if you want alot of candy). At the end of the night, the kids have alot of candy. I used to go when I was little, but by middle school I didn't like going anymore, but I still went with my friends. I went as a senior in high school because I had a friend from Japan who had never been trick or treating, so I went with her. As for my costumes, I have been many things. I have been an angel, an octopus, a witch, a turtle (when I was a baby), a 50's girl, and Disney's Beast from Beauty and the Beast. I can't remember any other ones.

(Also, Halloween has colors. Orange and Black)

Drink

What's a kind of drink do you like? I like tea, coffee, and alcohol.

I don't like tea three years ago, but I can drink it after I stayed in British. My favorite tea is lemon tea,　because Japanese water is soft and is suited lemon tea.

I sometimes go to a coffee shop, especially Starbucks, with my friend. My favorite coffee is Starbucks Late, it's cheap and sweet with lots of milk. It's fascinating point that it's cheaper than usual, if we bring own tumbler. Is it a common thing in America?

Finally I sometimes go to Izakaya like a pub to drink alcohol woth my friends. I likes cocktail, especially cassiss orange. When I drank a lots, I was laughing than usual, so I try to save it. What kind of alcohol is popular in America?

Today, we learned about drinking.


My favorite drink is coffee. I drink it everyday for relaxing. When I drink it I don't add something. I like black coffee very much. Black coffee with cake is the best combination!
Also, I often drink herbs tea. My friends recommended me to drink it.
Since then, I raise herbs by myself, pick them and make tea.



In Japan, we can drink alcohole from 20 years old. America is from 21, isn't it?? I like to drimk them but I seldom drink. Because I have to drive my car everyday.

ボディーランゲージ

授業でbody languageについて学びました。日本とアメリカでは共通のものが多くておもしろかったです。

以前、スペインの友人に指摘されたことは、「No.　と言っていてもうなずいているから、Yes か No　かわからない」です。日本では口が「Yes」と言えば「Yes」になり、「No」と言えば「No」になります。あまりbody language は大切ではないかもしれません。

私がよるやるbody languageは、親指を立てて、残りの指を内側におりこんんだものです。電話のサインによく似ています。意味は「わかった」「よくやった」「がんばれ！」です。友達同士でしますが、目上の人にすると失礼になってしまうのでしません。
みなさんはどんなbody languageを普段しますか？

ハロウィン

遅くなりましたが、ハロウィーンについて書きます。
先日の授業はハロウィーンについてでした。ハロウィンに関するクイズやビンゴゲーム、ミイラゲームを行いました。ミイラゲームではじゃんけんに負けて、トイレットペーパーで全身をぐるぐる巻きにされてしまいました。写真で自分の姿を見たときは、自分とは思えないほどのミイラが出来上がっていました。身動きができず、大変でしたがとてもおもしろかったです。
ハロウィンといえば、以前イギリスに留学していたとき、なんとかmonkeyというゲームをホストファミリーとしました。りんごやビーナッツを水槽に浮かべて、口だけでとるというゲームです。また糸で吊るしたパンケーキにチョコレートをつけて、口だけで食べるというゲームも覚えています。口のまわりがチョコレートだらけになってしまい、たいへんでした。
みなさんは、このようなゲームをしますか？

ボディーランゲッジ☆☆

前回の授業でボディーランゲッジについて学びました。既に知っていた知識もいくつかあったのですが、初めて知り驚くこともたくさんありました。



日本人が写真を撮るときに“ピースサイン”をすることを知っていますか？？私たちは無意識にカメラを向けられるとピースをしてしまいます。私たちは生まれたときからそれが当たり前だったのでおかしいと思ったりしなかったけどきっと不思議ですよね～～
もうひとつびっくりしたことが【お金】を示すジェスチャーでした。これも日本特有なんですね。親指とひとさし指で円を作って上を向けると【お金】を意味するんですよ～
アメリカでは【お金】を表すbody langage はありますか？？

日本のCM

金曜日、日本語の授業でビスコ子供のCMを見た。すごくおもしろかった。子供はちょっとこわいだけど。。。　子供を見るといぬはこわくなりました。ちょっとへんだと思います。

Halloween

こんにちは。アメリカでのハロウィン楽しそうですね☆
日本でもアメリカほどではないけど、コスプレしている人たちをみたよ。
私がアメリカにいたときはオレゴン大学で学生たちがみんなコスプレして騒いでた☆
瑠美も豹柄の魔女の格好をしました。学生たちの中にはマリオとルイージの格好をした人や、
ピーナッツの格好の人やウサギの格好の人がいました。
すごく楽しかったよ☆また行きたいです☆
日本でもハロウィンをもっと楽しめるといいのにな。。。
もし次着るとしたらディズニーのキャラクターになりたい☆

先週はハロウィンでしたね～。日本ではあまりハロウィンを祝う習慣がないんですよ。みんなの写真を見てるとすごく楽しそうでうらやましいなッ

大きなパーティーはあまりしないけどハロウィンを意識し始める10月になるとやたらカボチャのデザートなどが店頭に並ぶんですよ～
東京ディズニーランドでもイベントが行われます。けど日本人はハロウィンの意味を理解してるかは謎です。

Over this past weekend, I went to the Ween concert in Detroit. Half the crowd was wearing costumes for no reason other than it was a Ween concert where ridiculous things are encouraged. Ween is not a popular band by any means, they have never been played on the radio or given any attention by mainstream culture, but they have found a huge cult following over the past 20 years. They play a wide variety of music and ever album they release covers different genre's of music. they have played all sorts of music from punk rock to country. I'm huge ween fan, it was the second show of theirs I've seen this past year

I go to a lot of concerts here in Detroit, I usually see 3 or 4 concerts a month except during the winter when theres snow because few bands come through detroit because the weather is so bad.

Instead of being fun, I spent Halloween studying. I told people my costume was a "disaffected college student." But I'm so busy all the time, I can't go out and party! In Japan, do you celebrate Halloween? It's fun to pretend to be someone else for a day.

This evening, I studied my scuba diving manual. Scuba diving is my favorite thing to do, though it does consume a lot of time. I'm training now to be a divemaster. A divemaster is the first professional certification that a diver can attain. It's a lot of work. I have to understand physiology, chemistry, physics, and first aide for scuba-specific injuries. But scuba diving is really fun and rewarding! Last year, at Christmas, I went to the Cayman Islands with my family. The islands sit on an underwater cliff that drops 3000 feet. While we were diving, we saw three giant turtles and a humpback whale. It was amazing!

Hello everyone! How are you? Is the weather nice?


My name is Lynsey Piernick. Lynsey (usually spelled "Lindsay") means born under the "linden" tree... which does not seem very cool or cute. My mom is an elementary school teacher and she named me after one of her favorite students. My mom wanted to be creative so she spelled my name "L-y-n-s-e-y," but this is very unusual. Piernick has no meaning at all, I believe.


If I could go anywhere right now it would have to be Japan because I miss all of my Japanese friends and my exchange student 舞ちゃん. I really like Kyoto but Tokyo is too much like America. I really love 和歌山 though; it is so rural and beautiful! I also feel very special in 和歌山 because there are almost no 外国人~!


Today is Halloween! Do you know it? It is the holiday when everyone puts on costumes and parties. Though, when you are a kid, it is the day you go out and ask people for candy. Today I dressed up like a 芸者. It was very difficult to get all the white paint off!


I want to be a Japanese teacher someday-- My dream is to be a professor! What about you? What is your dream job?

色々！

My name is Nicole Jean Humphrey. I don't know what Humphrey means. Jean is my middle name and it came from my grandma because her nickname was Jean. My first name, Nicole, means victory in Greek. I am not Greek at all, but my mom liked the name. Someone asked where I would like to go. There are so many different places I would like to visit. I would of course want to go to Japan. I would also like to go to China, Russia, and many places in Europe. I love European History and I want to visit just about all the countries of Europe, like England, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Sweden, so many! The only foreign countries I have been to are Japan and Costa Rica. In Japan, I want to go everywhere. I especially want to see Hokkaido and Nothern Honshu. I also want to see the mountains in Japan. I really want to see some 日本猿. I have been to Kyoto and Tokyo. Between Kyoto and Tokyo, I liked Kyoto better. Tokyo was too big! I also liked all of the history in Kyoto (I love History). But I liked Wakayama more than both of those cities. I also went to Osaka, but just to the aquarium, so I didn't see the city.

Where do you wanna go?

Hi,I want to start with the place where I want to go.
I want to go Egypt,France,India,Mexico,America and so on.
I'd like to go all of these countries if I can.
Going abroad needs a lot of money, so I have to make money.
But to make money is a handful.
Do you guys do part time job?
My part time job is selling clothes at department.
I love my job and wnjoy it, but my house is far from the department.
Also, my train station is not handy,it takes 25 minites by car from my house.
So I need nearer job.

My part-time job

I work in a book store. I usually work from 17:00 to 23:30 after I go to school, and from 15:00 to 23:30 on a holiday.

Book store job is a handful, because we have to do the checkout counter, search for books for customers, put books in order, set the new books, retun old books and so on. Comics are lighter than other books, but magazines for women are the heaviest of all, so colleagues give me a hand.

I start to be in charge of Map corner recently, I study about travel guide books. The books about hot spring travel are selling well, because winter comes and we feel cold. Then they buy Hawaii, Guam books where are hotter than Japan. Japanese people tend to check the famous places by the book. Do you get information about travelig places bythe book?

私の名前

私の名前は福井景子です。
「福井」は県の名前にもあるので、よく知られています。しかし私は一度も福井県に訪れたことがありません。意味は幸福な井戸になります。今では井戸を使っている家庭がいないため、あまりイメージしやすい説明ではないかもしれませんが。
「景子」は景色の子供です。また「景」には広い、壮大なという意味もあるそうです。両親が名づけてくれた由来は、健康な子に育ってほしいからだろうです。
私が生まれる少し前、大きな飛行機事故がありました。その事故で多くの人が亡くなりましたが、その中で6人だけ奇跡的に助かった人がいます。その6人の生存者の中の一人の女性の名前「景子」をもらい、両親は私に名づけてくれました。
友達からは縁起がいいね、と言われますが、私の気持ちは複雑です。将来飛行機事故にあってしまっては、元も子もないからです。
また日本には姓名判断というものがあり、漢字の字画で運勢を占うというものです。名前の字画を占うことで、その人の性格から、今後の人生まで占えるみたいです。両親はこの字画にも注意して、私の名前をつけてくれました。

I’m Keiko Fukui, a student of Sugiyama University.
I’m studying Japanese literature, especially I’m going to write a graduation thesis about Haruki Murakami. Have you read his books? His books are interesting!
I also live in Gifu. You think it’s famous, but Hida where is a part of Gifu is famous as an ancient city like Kyoto. If you come to Japan, I recommend you to visit there. To tell the truth, it’ a long way from my city, because it takes about two hours by train.
I read one of Haruki’s book in English, so I’m glad to communicate with you in English for developing my English skill.

Meaning of our names!

Do you like your name? I love my name very much.
I'd like to introduce to you my name meaning today.
My first mame is "Miharu". It consists of two kanji letter”美晴”. ”美”　 means beautiful.　The letter is often used to girls name, so also my mother's name has ”美”. Her name is Chiemi（知江美）. There are many friends whoes name has ”美”. ”晴”means sunny.
However, the name was not named by my parents. There is Japanese tradition that is fortune-telling based on the number of strokes needed to write a name in kanji, so my name is based on it with my last name.
My last name is "Suzuki". It consists of two kanji letter too.”鈴木”."鈴”　means bell. 　"木”　means tree. I think you have heard the name, because it is the most common name in Japan. Almost all my neighbor's last name are Suzuki. It's so interesting, isn't it?

Hi! My name is Shiho Hayashi.I live in Gifu. Maybe you don't know Gifu. It's far from Tokyo. It takes 2 hours by express.
I like playing the piano, trumpet and listening music, reading book(Japaneae Manga) also shopping. I like Gwen Stefani,Green Day and Guy Sebastian who is an Australian Idol. I had been to Australia for one year 3 years ago, then I watched him on TV program also I watched American Idol.
